A Shower, a Sprinkle, and a Huge Downpour.

December 2009 and January 2010 have proved to be fruitful. My friend Kat and I both became pregnant- two completely different ways.  Kat currently lives in San Jose, but for a brief four years lived here in Cincinnati while getting her Phd. With Kat having a boy in October, I, a girl in September, a Halloween baby shower was in order....boy was I wrong.  I couldn't bring myself to haul all the Halloween decor up from the basement in June with the thought that I'll be hauling it all up in September (before the c-section) so I don't have to worry about it!  And I knew, there was no way I could live with Halloween decor up through the Fourth and Labor Day.  I've done that before, it can wear a little thin!  So, I went with Hot Pink and Green with B&W damask....a little punk pirate, a little class.  The idea was for the shower to be held outdoors, but in true Cincy fashion, it down poured all morning, even with the tent in the backyard, there was still an inch of water on the grass and the humidity was unbearable (to everyone but Kat, whom is just the anti-pregnant hot all the time momma). So indoors it was, with the background noise of our dear dogs barking since I decided to separate them from eating everything on the table.

I wound up eating all but three pieces of the cake throughout the weekend.

We played a few games. These proved to be fun, since co-ed lesbian baby showers (and a sprinkle for seasoned mama) can get interesting very quickly.  The steal the pin game included the following words: Baby, Infant, Child, Kid, Diaper and The.  Kat's idea, I just made the sign.

The second game, included drinking booze (or lemonade) out of a slow nippled baby bottle the fastest.  Not everyone participated, but nonetheless, fun was had.
The third game was guess the baby food....

And the fourth game was 'invented' by Kat the night before.  We spent hours learning more about each other than either of us (or anyone) should ever know.  We each wrote down twenty things (some average, some outlandish) that either both of us, neither of us, or just one of us had done.  We read them aloud, the guests had to guess....Man, do our friends think of us differently.  Some of the scenerios were as follows :
Arrested
Skydiving
Flatlined
Peed the boyfriends bed
Drug Smuggling
Drag racing

You get the gist...things that you don't want to think of mothers to be doing....ever.  During pregnancy you are a vessel of life and not of the horrificly hilarious events that leave you wondering how the hell you survived the first few decades of your own life...now you have to make sure someone else dosen't do the same crap you did? Oh, and I'm not telling which of the following was me.  What happened at the shower, stays at the shower.

The very confused man standing there is one of my best friends, not my husband.  Chris was smart enough to get the hell out of the house occupied by three girls that were living there while she was in town...two pregnant women and a four year old....He packed his guns and ammo and heading to the hills of Kentucky to do manly man things.  The poor sap with me, well...he was once again dragged into my shenannigans of a co-ed baby shower for the second time.

The glorious creature in red is Kat, five months pregnant with her friend Erica.  I'm still in shock that she is having a baby....of course, I am in shock that I'm doing this again.....

Nope. That was a Kroger Buttercream cake that I took a napkin in and instead of B&W she added pink and green to it! Total Cost $9.99. And damn, I really did eat all of it for the most part!
