Humdrum

Not much going on.

Last Saturday, I took Ms. B, Ms. R and Fred to Disney on Ice. It was a good time.  Cotton Candy, Popcorn, three coloring books, three pendants....and 50 buck later, but we had PRIME seats for free.  I won the tickets on Cincymoms.com (which is now changed...BOO BTW.)  But I even had tears in my eyes when the show started and Mickey and Minnie came out on ice.  I never got to go to these shows as a kid, (to no fault of anyone).  Hell, Fred would not have gone to this show this year if I wouldn't have won the tickets!!!!  But seeing the figure skaters....always brings a tear to my eye.  So, I think I may look into skating classes for Fred....and myself!

Saturday night, Mr. Randall (aka Chewbacca), Chris, and the Mullens went to the Wilmington Haunted Hollow Ride with the flaming semi's.  Yes, semi's on fire, bulldozers on fire and flamethrowers!  The bus ride alone is scary....cause you could die.  We stood in line (due to much drinking...not me though) for 2 1/2 hours just to get tickets.  Last year it was raining, so lines were WAY shorter.  But all in all, it was worth it.  I got to guzzle a beer before we got in line.  The drunk monkeys (excluding Randall and I) were a riot.  Mr. Mullen is funny on margaritas!

Sunday- SICK kid, SICK mommy.

The rest of this week has been, uneventful.  I think Sunday, we are going to go on an afternoon nature walk.  We need to find acorns to feed our squirrels around here- so they will lay off my pumpkins! One has been working on my 36 pounder!  Vicious rats with pretty tails....DAMN YOU!

I mowed the entire lawn, broke the 'vacancy' tombstone (repairable), re-organized the garage, and had a 2x4 slam on my fingers and my response was " Ow, Shit!"  guess what Fred's response was....." Oh, Shit"  funny yes.  An hour later, Fred asks " Mommy, what is shit?"  I told her it's a grownup word and she's not to say it. Minutes later, I'm in the kitchen cracking up laughing.  The first word my Gramma taught me cause she thought it was 'cute', was shit.  Here's to you Gramma.  I miss you.

16 Days til Halloween....

Well kids, here it is.  16 Days to go.  Fred is going to be Dorothy (again).  I still don't have a costume.  But we may be getting guests for Halloween (the Schaffners).  The tombstones are done.  'Jack' is the only one not finished.  I still don't know what to do with him.

I was feeling pretty good about how my house looked since alot is homemade....until I stumbled upon this guy.  So, talking to Mama Schaffner this morning, we are going to have to start the day AFTER Halloween to prepare for next year.  I thought I might try making a snowman (I know, talking about Christmas before Halloween is usually treason in my house!) out of paper mache for our front porch.  Then I can start making pumpkins!!!!

I'm going to put up final pictures (even though Chris has been sucked in to make and ice contraption for the fog machine!) today or tomorrow.  But I have a feeling, that I'm never going to be done until Trick or Treat is over....

Tombstones ALMOST Finished

The cross broke.  But Mikki and I looked as the top laid against the other and the brains clicked on " Hey, that works!"
This one became 'I told you I was sick' with the busted skeleton in front of it.
Stenciling 101.

Halloween setup so far

Tombstones with baseboards added.

This, according to Fred, is the 'Roar'.

Chris falling asleep on me

I was on the phone with my friend H, and she could hear my husband snoring.  He fell asleep reading WoW blogs.....So I snuck outside, held the phone up to the window, from outside, to let her hear how loud he is.  Poor guy, I'm totally picking on him.  But it was cute...in loud, snory, manly, kinda way.

Hurricane Ike.....the aftermath

Our neighbors tree (whom we love) dumped large maple tree limbs in our backyard.
I had to go out multiple times during the storm to let the dogs out.  Chris was at 'gun training', so I was home alone.  Fred was with her grandparents for the evening.  So there I was, all alone, neighbors and I outside watching limbs and trees fall on our neighbors house.  Squeaks was hit by a large limb and I was missed by 3 or 4 inches of one.  Luckily, no one but our backyard was harmed.
This is Monday.  Chris missed work so he could chainsaw and I missed bootcamp (what is that you say...I will tell later) due to no power.
This is the pile that was left.  Sunday night, we lost power for only 6 hours.  Every street around us, was another story.  My mother lost power for almost 4 days.  But we received power late that night.  But not after we traded candles for beer....the important things.

We have learned the following things:

1. we need a generator
2. we need beer on hand at all times
3. more candles
4. more canned foods...
5. outside games...

The night before the storm, I hosted the first ever 'street' party for  our street.  The next day, a hurricane.  Sunday evening and Monday, never before have more neighbors helped each other on this street since the 60's.  I know this only because there are TONS of people who lived here back when my mother in law grew up here.
