A long time ago, a galaxy far ...far.. in Georgia????

I used to go on trips on a whim.  Usually only with 200 miles of my hometown. But still, on a whim.

So, it's worked out, I can leave this Sunday, Monday to Valdosta, GA to see my best friend.

And all I can say....is "can I hit Savannah.....?"

I say goodbye, you say hello

Tonight, I said goodbye to a dear friend of four years.  In summer of 2004, when my life was in total upheaval, and loss was coming rapidly for me, I met Kat.  Bleach blond, stringy, wild, crazy, happy, common sense no where to be found, going for her P.h.d in Marketing research theory (consumer theory) or some such.  But this little goth girl...getting a P.h.d?  How could this be?
In four years, she changed so much.  When she traveled, she left the care of all that she holds dear to me, her cats, her ferrets, and the beloved Harley.  When she needed me to tell her the truth, even when she never wanted to hear it, I told her.  And that's why, I'm the only and the youngest "Broad" that she's ever met.  Compliment to me, since I love broads (Bette Midler, Joy Behar, Stockard Channing, Carol Burnett)  She was the girl who showed up at my baby shower, at Fred's first birthday with a flaming red mowhawk with jingle bell earrings and sweater to match...that's my friend Kat.  Fred was the first child she had ever touched...only cause she was touching her.  But I watched as Kat touched her and interacted with her, I looked on going " do you realize, you just touched her and held her, with no fear?"  She didn't know she was capable.
So the girl picks bad girls.  There was a time when I wanted her to pick me, but hey, she saw I was in love with the bloke I married...plus, I wasn't her type.  (though now, she may reconsider finding another girl like me:)
Kat received her P.h.d on June 13th, 2008 alongside of Kayte (P.h.d in some sort of biology/chemistry that I'll never understand) and Chris's best friend since childhood (his Masters in Business Administration (the guy if she were straight she said she'd marry on the spot the day we 'got hitched'. )  I was so proud of all three.  But really, really proud of her.  She had a tough time personnally while here in Cincy.  She's traveled the world- over 50 countries, most of the US, but she's never met a more loyal friend than me. Yes, I toot my own horn, but I love this girl alot.  I'm gonna miss her.  But I now am taking care of her ferret Andy (Andromeda), whom is now apart of our family, and reminds me of her everyday.  I will love visiting her in Cali- cause I've never been. But I'm going to miss her drama, her laughter, her smile and most of all, my friend.

This is as odd as it gets.

This disturbs me.  But I'm trying to figure out, which one disturbs me more.

Fred's Pictures

The one above is her very first picture!  Of course it has to be of my feet!
She caught a close up of Squeaks and his missing fur!
I think this one is pretty good.  Once again, D.G.'s nose to the ground.
Here's a shot of our backyard.
And her favorite thing outside, is her standing  rock.  And she took the picture.  I say, someone needs a kid proof camera from Santa this year!

Our Pumpkin

So our pumpkin patch finally has a pumpkin.  It is hiding underneath our sunflowers, and is surviving the cucumber bug infestation!!!  I've been battling them all week.  Along with the mildew on the leaves, so we have cut back alot of them.  All I care about now, is keeping this one pumpkin going!  We finally have bees out in the morning to help with pollination, so perhaps we'll have more soon.  I can only hope.

Busy doing nothing

So, we have been busy.  And busy doing nothing.

We are getting a ferret today.  Which is funny since it's more his idea than mine.  But, she needs a home and a good place to finish her life.  She's really, really old and can't make her trip home with her momma.  I'll have pictures up.  Plus I need to get pictures of our homemade tutu's up!

And new news....I have spotted a pumpkin in our pumpkin garden!  Pics to come tonight or morning!!!!

Twilight

Some say it's the next Harry Potter.  I say Twilight phooey.  I just finished the first book, and it was good- but not JK Rowling.  I think teenage girls love it cause they all want to be that special to a guy.  And hey, if he's a vampire, all the better.  I spent many of my teenage years dreaming of Lestat.... But I will read the final three books, cause now I've started the series I have to finish.

The writing is all around ok, but the world within the cover really is meant for teenage girls.  Harry Potter is so much more rich, and fantastic that Twilight cannot hold a candle to any of the Harry Potter books. HP is easy for anyone to read, but there is so much more substance. I stopped reading books of Twilight's level in the 6th grade when I switched straight from RL Stine  Fear Street (which were shorter, but written just the same) to Stephen King, Anne Rice and the like.  It's a good story- but really, that's about it. There was never a moment I couldn't put the book down....which for me, if it's good, I have to know what happens next.  Twilight never had one of those moments. For all my vampire lovin' I'll stick with Charlaine, Kim and Kelley.

Green Thumb Day

Today started off somewhere last night with Fred being sick with a fever and lasted until about 10 am.  She is still groggy, running a head temp but her body has cooled down. Fred has spent most of today hiding in our bedroom, coming out for water, food and a little attention.  But more or less, she has held our bedroom hostage as her personal sick bay, telling us to "Go Away" after she settles in. I think she has watched Secret of Nimb 4 times today!
She did venture outside for a bit to help transplant the Green Gold Spider Plants into larger pots and but the babies into dirt finally.  First there were two- now we have five!
I went to Lowe's to get dirt (which buying dirt still yanks my chain)!  I really should take buckets in the dark of night like Randall did and dig it up from the woods in Ault Park.  Yes kids, he really did.  While at Lowe's I hit the plant clearance bin, picked up another Daylily, Black-eyed Susans', Purple verbera and some pink perennial I've forgotten the name of.  I came home and cleared and area of the back garden of ivy, poison ivy and other random weeds.  Which, if you ever come over- you will see the wars I've declared on the English Ivy.  Another year or two and we would not have been able to open doors.

Very Sick Fred

Fred has been overly lovely for a few days now.  She held a minor fever Thurday and Friday.  Well, Saturday at 3 am, I go into the bedroom and she is wide awake, running at about 101.  After an eventful day helping out the Mullens bug bombing their house, she is up at midnight running at 103.  She's eating, she crying and she downright the most pathetic thing I've ever seen.  She's talking, walking, and telling me what she needs, but she's so sad.

As a mother, I want to do everything to make her comfortable, but I have to let her body fight what it wants to do.  I can't fight it for her.  But, I can feed her popsicles if it makes her happy.

I did call the doctor around 11:20 tonight and she had me up her ibuprofen dosage since her weight is higher than the average 2 year old.

So now, we sit and wait it out....all while watching Addams Family Values.  Yes, it's PG-13, but there is really just funny parts to her and dosen't get the adult overtones...yet.  Plus, she told Chris that Morticia is Mommy.  That just rocks my world....now I just have to get that waist line back!!!!

Fred's 4th of July bike.

Since it rained during parade time, I still saved her bike for her to ride around.  So tonight- mini parade time!!!

Garden is going!!!

Our pumpkin garden is going well.  We took out three of the plants and it's still overwhelming.  I don't know if they are going to fruit at all, since I've seen one bee this year, and only male flowers, so it's going to be hard to germinate!
Here is our mini sunflowers...almost ready to pop!

Here is Squeaks drinking out of the bird-bath....once again, stomping our gladiolas.
And last but not least- the burning bush I put in the tire.  Cause hey, it was there.

I've managed to mow the lawn today, clean the front porch off and empty Fred's pool for cleaning.  Busy, Busy day.

Farm in the Burb's.

This evening, we took Fred to Beech Acres to pet the farm animals and get her first pony ride.  Luckily, the rain cleared for the evening and the temp was none too bad.  They had goats galore, ponies, a donkey, a cow, a lama, and my favorite..silky chickens.
And Chris wore one of his offensive shirts..  Which now looking back, is pretty funny.

Independence Day and all the days that followed.

There was a plan.  But as all good things go, plans change.  Thanks to our lovely weather, friends decided not to attend the Balloon Glow with us.  At the last minute (8:20 p.m.) we ran home and back out the door to Coney Island.  Fred loved the balloons, the funnel cake and really wanted to ride some of rides- but the lines were too long to get tickets and not enough time to ride them.  Fred didn't like the fireworks at first, and poor Chris I think fed off of her anxiety, and made it worse.  She came to me, I explained how pretty skyflowers are and that they can't hurt when they are that high.  Then she started cheering.  The best part is they used Brian Tyler's music from Children of Dune!!!

Friday morning we planned on attending the Mt. Washington parade to enter Fred and her bike and walk the parade....but it was raining too much the decorations would have melted.  Ironic since she was going to wear her Dorothy costume- since we don't have much red, white and blue.

The afternoon we went to the Mullens.  Another Fianna family joined the gang and we let the kids run amuck.  Dress up, sparklers, and the cutest bee ever!  The men gathered and talked of hunting and gathering...oh, don't we wish.  It was all WoW speak.  So the mom's spent our time talking about what...our kids, our friends, and silly stuff the WoW men do. It was one of the best days of the summer so far.
To end our weekend, Fred and Miss B. closed out the weekend with swimming, bickering (like 2 and 4 year olds will do) and a little dinner.  Oh, and Heather and I had a good time too.

Photos Property of and Taken By Mikki - steal it, and I will cutchoo.

Introduction of the Pumpkin Girls.

Welcome.  Here you will begin to see the fun adventures of The Pumpkin Girls.  Who are we?  Well, my daughter and myself.  Occasionally you may read a word or two from/about my husband and the rest of our pack, but for the most part, it's going to be about us girls.  Fred is 2, I'm somewhere getting close to 30.  I'm a stay at home mom, cook, maid, house manager, zookeeper, gardener, personal shopper, mother and most importantly, my husbands partner/wife/lover/personal confidant.

I plan to post about our drawing, painting, learning to knit, crochet, felt and to sew, our gardening, home projects, movies we love, and most of all, our adventures.

We'll start with Fourth of July 2008, tomorrow!
