The Pumpkin has Landed!

I gave birth on Monday to our newest Pumpkingirl!  Of course her real name will be shielded, but for your amusement I bring you, Squish, weighing in at 6lbs 15oz (tiny compared to Fred!).  Both of us are doing just fine and recovery from surgery has been GREAT.  I was up and moving this time before dawn.  So, now it's just time to get home, get a little settled, and then put up all those Halloween decorations!

Oh, and my other mother conspirator got me a pumpkin in lieu of flowers!!!  I highly recommend this!

Another Friday Night Date Night at Target

With only two full days left, we headed out to Red Lobster with Fred, and then to Target to get those much needed last minute things.  While there I did see that they had 50% of their Halloween out.  Not much very cool, but alot of glitter on some skeletons, pumpkins, and a giant skull for candy and what nots.  I picked up some pumpkin string lights for Fred and an 13 day 'advent' Halloween calendar!  But my score was Edgar & Ellen Volume 1 for $7.99.  They also had some Goosebumps videos, but those are better to Netflix.

Someday I'm gonna get all the books in hardback for me...and maybe let the kids (omg, I can almost legitimately say 'kids') borrow them.

I finally got my Dorothy Doll....

only she wasn't the one I was expecting! And the one we bought has two braids and the makeup is a little more....dramatic.  But I found it quite funny, when I told him I wanted the regular one, and he said he was going to get me 'tarted up Dorothy' whether I liked it or not.  Gotta love Friday night date night at Target!

So I come home, only to look up that there are three other WoOZ Barbies that I need (along with most of the others since I only have the Wicked Witch of the West!  But these are really cute.

I just wish they would make a Dorothy with silver slippers sometime!

We interupt this program.....

Yesterday, morning, I started having contractions, which some were normal par for the course, some were coming on stronger than need be. I called my mom over just to kinda 'watch' me since they were making me dizzy.  I knew something different was up.  So she brought me lunch, we ate, and soon after I was starting to clean.  Then, as I put on my makeup I realized I needed to call the Dr. This was more than just Braxton Hicks.  It was recomended that I come in to be checked.  So I call Chris, and off we go.

At the Dr.'s I was not dialated, but having regular contractions, and after being painfully examined, the Dr. told me that the baby's probably not coming out the regular way even if I wanted.  Off to Labor and Delivery to be monitored, cause something ain't right.

Another hour goes by, I finally get monitored, I'm nervous and in pain, but since I didn't dialate and I'm not 39 weeks, I get a shot of Brethine (to make the 'contractions' stop) and sent home with orders to call in two hours if they don't stop.  So at this point I'm shaking against my will (the meds) and hungry, confused, and overall upset.  I get not getting the baby out earlier than need be, but something says things aren't right.  So, I ordered food, took a hot bath, walked, paced, laid down in any and every position, and nothing changed.  So instead of two hours, I waited almost four, called back and was told- take some Benadryl and go to bed and no major activities.  Needless to say, I didn't sleep well, still had contractions only now they are making me sick to my stomach.  So, we'll see what today brings.

What will this years retail giants bring us?

I'm beginning to think that last year's Saturday Halloween put all designers, editors, and photographers over the edge- or they all were suffocated by glitter.  Since many of the major stores have yet to start setting up for Halloween, me and my fellow regional haunter/crafter/conspirator, have been trying to figure out what stores are going to inspire us to shop there or make it ourselves.  Will it be worth leaving the house for, should I buy it now or wait to see if there are any left on sale?  And the most important question- Is it worth getting up super early on Nov 1st to get it on clearance (which I wanna hurt Target since they mark down so damn slowly). This is a topic of high priority since I have nothing else but cleaning and waiting for my hostage holder to let me go!

Target has apparently gotten Simon Doonan to design clothes for them.  This terrifies me, and not in a good way. This lighted tombstone appears to be right up the same alley along with these tumblers. There are a couple of really cute things when I search for new in Halloween. I like these martini glasses, and skull plates, (although I do like a little less formaldehyde on things I eat off of). There also seems to be some vintage peeking through the new designs, but not enough for my preferences. I think I preferred the glitter......

Michaels Arts and Crafts seemed a little low and everything resembled last year.  I did manage to make a few purchases from there early, because when I went back, they were gone.
I plan to paint the Spooky and Creepy black and then dry brush them green and add glitter.  And Funkins are always needed.  In the Better Homes and Gardens Halloween 2010 issue, they covered some in lace and looked very elegant.  Or who knows what else I could do with them, but my fireplace needs some pumpkins surrounding it this year!

JoAnn's had most of their Halloween out, except fabric....which was a little unnerving.  Nothing there struck my fancy (which is odd since they usually do) with the exception of the Martha Stewart section and her cupcake wrappers.  I think she has hired on steampunk artists for these!  There were more that I hadn't seen before.

In the magazines, I'm seeing alot of vintage and steampunk inspired Halloween, and some of the influences in the stores, and then I'm seeing what Target may be providing, which once again is dissapointing.  I guess I will have to wait til after I'm freed and have one more thing to carry before I will find out what the other major stores have to offer.
